KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 21 (Bernama) -- Malaysia has clinched the hosting rights for the International Congress on Parasitology (ICOPA) 2030, which will be held at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching, Sarawak, from Aug 18-23, 2030.
The international congress, which is expected to attract about 2,500 delegates from the global parasitology and tropical medicine community, will be held in Malaysia and Southeast Asia for the first time.
The bid was initiated by the Malaysia Convention & Exhibition Bureau (MyCEB) in 2021 through partnership with the Malaysian Society of Parasitology and Tropical Medicine (MSPTM) and Business Events Sarawak.
MyCEB chief executive officer Tan Mei Phing said that securing ICOPA 2030 was a significant achievement for Malaysia and reflected the international community’s confidence in the country’s ability to host major global scientific congresses.
“Today’s success demonstrates what can be achieved through strong collaboration between our national association, destination partners and the business events industry,” she said in a statement here.
She said bringing ICOPA to Malaysia and Southeast Asia was not only an important milestone for the business events industry, but also an opportunity to create meaningful impact through knowledge exchange, international research collaboration and professional development.
Held once every four years, ICOPA brings together researchers, academicians, practitioners and experts from around the world to advance knowledge, facilitate scientific exchange and strengthen international collaboration in parasitology and tropical medicine.
According to MyCEB, hosting the congress was expected to contribute to international visitor arrivals and generate wider economic benefits for Kuching, Sarawak and Malaysia.
The company congratulated MSPTM on the achievement and acknowledged the contributions of Business Events Sarawak and other partners and stakeholders involved in the successful bid.
“This achievement reflects the strength of collaboration in attracting high-value international Business Events to Malaysia and further elevates the country’s profile on the global stage,” it said.
It has also reaffirmed its commitment to working closely with MSPTM, Business Events Sarawak and relevant industry partners to ensure the successful delivery of ICOPA 2030.
