ISLAMABAD, Aug 21 (Bernama-Anadolu) -- Pakistan and Syria discussed strengthening bilateral defence and security cooperation during a meeting Friday between Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad Al-Shaibani and Pakistan's Army Chief Field Marshal Asim Munir, Anadolu Ajansi (AA) reported.
Al-Shaibani, accompanied by a Syrian delegation, met with Munir, who also serves as Pakistan's chief of defence forces, at the General Headquarters in Rawalpindi, according to a press release from the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the official media and public relations wing of the Pakistan Armed Forces.
The two sides discussed matters of mutual interest, the regional security environment and opportunities to expand bilateral cooperation in defence and security, the statement said.
Munir highlighted what he described as Pakistan's longstanding fraternal ties with Syria and outlined Islamabad's perspective on global peace and regional stability.
He also stressed the importance of cooperation and joint efforts to address common security challenges, according to ISPR.
Al-Shaibani praised the role of Pakistan's armed forces in promoting regional peace and stability.
Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral relations and expanding engagement in the defence and security sectors, the statement added.
