IPOH, Aug 21 (Bernama) -- The allowance rates for supervisors and trainers at Community-Based Rehabilitation (PDK) centres need to be reviewed and increased to better reflect their responsibilities in managing, educating, and caring for persons with disabilities (PWDs).
Special Officer to the Perak Menteri Besar for the Kampung Gajah state constituency, Khairul Azwan Harun, said supervisors at PDK centres currently receive a monthly allowance of RM1,500, while trainers receive RM1,200. Their duties require a high level of commitment, patience, and attention when guiding children with special needs.
He said the role of PDK personnel is vital, as they not only help trainees enhance their skills and self-reliance but also serve as a crucial support system for families, ensuring these special children receive appropriate care and guidance.
“I appeal to the government, particularly the Social Welfare Department (JKM), to consider raising the allowance rates for PDK supervisors and trainers because they play a paramount role in managing, educating, and caring for children with special needs.
“Given the heavy responsibilities they shoulder, I believe the current allowance rates should be reviewed to better match their work and dedication,” he said in a statement today.
Khairul Azwan added he has requested an allocation from the Implementation Coordination Unit (ICU) of the Prime Minister’s Department (JPM) to help upgrade PDK Cahaya Qaseh in Kampong Gajah, which is in a dilapidated condition.
The identified necessities, he said, include repainting the building and upgrading the drainage system due to clogging that could cause discomfort and safety risks during heavy rainfall.
“The physical condition of this PDK centre requires attention so these special children can undergo activities in a more comfortable, safe, and conducive environment.
“I hope this application will be considered because proper facilities are crucial to ensuring services for trainees and their families are delivered more effectively,” he said.
Earlier, Khairul Azwan visited the centre to observe the activities, facilities, and needs of the special children receiving services and guidance there.
