Quranic Values, Shared Responsibility Key To Building A Prosperous Malaysia

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 19 (Bernama) -- Efforts to build a prosperous Malaysia cannot be placed solely on leaders; it calls for the shared responsibility of all Malaysians by making the values of the Quran a guide in daily life.

Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia’s (USIM) Faculty of Quran and Sunnah Studies lecturer Dr Mohd Shamsul Hakim Abd Samad said every segment of society has a role to play in ensuring that the country’s prosperity can be enjoyed by all.

He said in the context of shared responsibility, leaders need to formulate good, fair and effective policies, while the people need to translate noble values into their daily lives, including in matters of cleanliness, integrity and helping one another.

“This country does not belong only to certain groups; we share the responsibility of ensuring that its prosperity benefits all citizens.

“If we expect integrity to prevail in every aspect of our society, but we do not start with ourselves, then what we hope for will not happen,” he said.

He said this during Malaysia Petang Ini programme titled ‘Malaysia #QuranHour: Bingkas Menuju Malaysia Sejahtera’, produced by Bernama TV today.

Mohd Shamsul Hakim said the spirit is in line with the Malaysia #QuranHour movement, which seeks to bring together people from all walks of life and convey the Quran’s message so that it can be understood, reflected upon and applied in every aspect of life, rather than merely being read for an hour.

He said after 12 editions, Malaysia #QuranHour has gained significant value in connecting Quranic knowledge with the realities of the people’s lives.

“We do not want the Quran to merely be read; we want it to influence the way we think and the way we act,” he said.

Commenting on the theme ‘Bingkas Menuju Malaysia Sejahtera’, Mohd Shamsul Hakim said the word ‘bingkas’ conveys the meaning of rising after a fall, but such a resurgence needs to be accompanied by awareness, courage and action guided by the Quran.

He said society should not give up when faced with challenges, including those related to the economy, livelihood, family and personal matters, but should instead seek solutions guided by the values of the Quran.
