SUBANG JAYA, Aug 17 (Bernama) -- Perak shooter Nazirul Iqbal Roszaini turned the disappointment of winning bronze two years ago into gold after triumphing in the men's 10-metre air rifle event at the 2026 Malaysia Games (SUKMA) today.
Adding to his achievement, the 18-year-old's score of 245.9 points at the National Shooting Range here in the Selangor edition also saw him break the Games record of 242.5 set by Haritz Iklil Hessly Hafiz at the 2022 edition in Kuala Lumpur.
Sarawak's Rizki Razain Mohammad Isti Syahran took silver with 240.2 points, while Pahang's Muhd Iman Syahmi Mohd Azidi claimed bronze with 218.6.
“I was targeting gold this time based on my training form. I have previously scored 249 points and was confident that with the training I had put in, I could set a national record.
“I train for between four and five hours a day, depending on how I feel. I have been doing a lot of intensive training and believe in my ability,” he said.
The Ipoh-born shooter said his experience with the national team since February 2025 had also boosted his confidence and helped him improve on his bronze-medal finish at the previous edition.
“I came into this edition more confident of winning gold because I am at a higher level now after joining the national team,” he said.
Nazirul said he hoped today's success would be just the beginning, as he is targeting three more gold medals in the three-position, prone and mixed events.
