MELAKA, Aug 17 (Bernama) -- Over 600 students from Melaka, Negeri Sembilan and Johor took part in the Southern Zone Social Issues Awareness Roadshow (J-KIS) 2026 at the Al-Azim Auditorium in Bukit Palah today.
Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs), Senator Dr Zulkifli Hasan, said the programme, organised by the Islamic Development Department of Malaysia (JAKIM), aims to raise awareness about current social issues affecting the country.
"We bring in experts, including those directly involved and enforcement authorities, to share insights on pressing social issues while providing guidance to our youth," he told reporters after officiating the event.
"This is the second series of the programme, following the Northern Zone session recently," he added.
Dr Zulkifli said the government is taking proactive steps to equip young people with knowledge, enabling them to navigate the increasingly complex social challenges of today.
He said the programme goes beyond just lectures. It also features quizzes, games and exhibitions by government agencies such as the police and the National Anti-Drug Agency.
When asked about proposed amendments to the Tabung Haji Act 1995 (Act 535), Zulkifli said relevant parties are working on the matter.
"All the necessary work is underway and will be stepped up further. Insya-Allah, it will be implemented properly," he said.
Yesterday, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim was reported as saying the government will amend Act 535 to safeguard the trust placed in the institution by Muslims.
Anwar, who is also Finance Minister, said the amendments are part of the MADANI government's push to strengthen governance and correct institutional weaknesses decisively.
