Public More Attentive To Jalur Gemilang Details - Fahmi

MELAKA, Aug 16 (Bernama) -- More Malaysians are becoming aware of the Jalur Gemilang’s details, including its number of stripes and colour arrangement, Communications Minister Datuk Seri Fahmi Fadzil said.

He said this reflected growing awareness among Malaysians on the importance of respecting the Jalur Gemilang, especially during the National Month celebrations.

“So far, there have been no new complaints. I have also noticed that people are becoming more attentive and aware. When they see the Jalur Gemilang, many will start counting the number of stripes and checking whether the last stripe is white.

“This has become a habit where people correct and advise one another,” he told the media after the Ziarah Kasih programme here today.

Fahmi said he was aware of the incident involving an allegedly incomplete Jalur Gemilang displayed in Batu Buruk, Terengganu, but left the matter to the authorities as it was under investigation.

He also noted a new trend among vehicle owners who are opting for magnetic Jalur Gemilang stickers instead of physical flags to avoid damaging their vehicle paintwork or body.

“Many have started using magnetic stickers instead of attaching flags to their vehicles. This is a positive development as it is more convenient for vehicle owners,” he said.

On preparations for the National Day and Malaysia Day celebrations, Fahmi said arrangements, including contingent preparations, the Ministry of Education’s (MOE) human graphic performance and logistics in Putrajaya, were progressing smoothly.

He said a National Day coordination meeting would be held tomorrow, while a virtual meeting on Malaysia Day celebrations is scheduled for Aug 24.

Fahmi said two major events would be held on Merdeka Eve in the capital - one at Merdeka Stadium organised by the Ministry of National Unity, which will feature a special address by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, and another at Dataran Merdeka organised by Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL).

Earlier, Fahmi, who is also the MADANI Government spokesperson, visited two elderly stroke patients, R. Sathia Devi, 70, at Pangsapuri Kiara, Batu Berendam and Abu Zarin Nordin, 64, at Kampung Tun Razak, Bukit Katil.

He said the visit was to assess the assistance needed by the recipients, including milk supplies, support from the Social Welfare Department (JKM) and rehabilitation treatment.

“I will relay the information and thank the Information Department for identifying families in need. We will follow up with several measures, including alternative treatments such as acupuncture,” he said.
