MELAKA, Aug 15 (Bernama) -- The reform agenda must continue even after assuming power, with governance constantly improved, including through stronger efforts to combat corruption, said Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah) president Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu.

He said the mandate entrusted by the people must be demonstrated through work and action, regardless of position or who is involved.

“Those who siphon off the people’s money, we will fight them. It does not matter who they are or what position they hold. For Bang Mat, reform is not merely a slogan. We have been entrusted with a mandate. Now is the time for us to prove it through our work and actions. The struggle is still a long one. We will continue working for the people and the country,” he said in a post on his Facebook page today.

The Agriculture and Food Security Minister said he also attended and listened to the address by Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim at the 2026 PKR National Congress at the Melaka International Trade Centre (MITC) in Ayer Keroh here today, which also touched on the continuity of the reform agenda.

He said the government was also committed to championing the rights of the people of Sabah and Sarawak through the implementation of the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63), while ensuring that economic growth translated into improved living standards for the people and the ability to address cost-of-living pressures.

On the economy, he said growth figures were important, but more importantly, the people must experience an improvement in their living standards and the government must be able to address cost-of-living pressures.

He also welcomed the announcement on the repeal of the Universities and University Colleges Act 1971 (AUKU), which he described as providing greater space and freedom for university students.
