More Than 2,000 Kg Chuchoh Puteri A Residents Get Clean Water After Three Decades

KUALA KRAI, Aug 15 (Bernama) -- More than 2,000 residents of Kampung Chuchoh Puteri A here now have access to clean water after relying for more than three decades on a gravity-fed water supply system sourced from a nearby stream for their daily needs, as well as agricultural and livestock activities.

Mukim Chuchoh Puteri penghulu Zakri Zakaria said the increase in population and construction of new houses had caused the system to be unable to meet current demand.

“The situation was further compounded by low water pressure, limited catchment areas and ageing pipes that frequently leak.

“During the dry season, the water flow becomes even slower and at times fails to reach residents’ homes, affecting their daily lives as well as local economic activities,” he told Bernama when met at Kampung Chuchoh Puteri here today.

Zurich General Takaful Malaysia Berhad (Zurich Takaful) chairman Datuk Wan Mohd Fadzmi Che Wan Othman Fadzilah said the clean water supply programme was implemented to assist the community, which had long faced difficulties in accessing clean water.

“As a takaful protection provider, we are pleased to be able to channel zakat wakalah contributions through an initiative that provides tangible and long-term benefits. We hope this facility will further enhance the well-being of residents here,” he said after the inauguration and handover ceremony for the Kampung Chuchoh Puteri A clean water programme here today.

Meanwhile, Islamic Aid Malaysia president Zawahir Andullah said that, as the implementing non-governmental organisation (NGO), the Zurich Takaful Corporate Zakat Responsibility (CZR) programme involved upgrading the water supply system, replacing damaged pipes and installing two tanks, each with a capacity of 5,000 gallons.

“In addition, the synthetic membrane water filtration system was upgraded, while piping works covering nearly five kilometres from the water source to the storage tanks and subsequently to the main pipe network were also carried out.

“A pump house was also built to channel treated clean water for the residents’ daily needs and agricultural activities,” he said, adding that the project began last June.

The facilities also benefit the mosque, childcare centre, community centre and several madrasahs in the village.
