PKR Congress Platform To Close Ranks, Win Back People’s Trust - Tengku Zafrul

MELAKA, Aug 15 (Bernama) -- The 2026 PKR National Congress should serve as a platform to close ranks, strengthen the party and regain the people’s trust, said the Prime Minister’s senior political adviser, Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz.

Tengku Zafrul, an ex-officio member of the PKR Political Bureau, urged all members to assess weaknesses, strengthen the organisation and ensure the party machinery operates more effectively, from the grassroots to the central leadership.

“The results of the recent state elections require us to engage in honest self-reflection. We may be disappointed with our partners in the Unity Government, but we cannot control other parties. What we can improve is our own party. So, let us focus all our efforts on strengthening the party.

“If the people have yet to see the results of what we have worked for, it is also our responsibility to communicate more clearly and effectively,” he said in a Facebook post.

At the same time, he said all party members must listen to the people’s grievances with an open heart and not be so preoccupied with responding that they forget to understand the actual problems.

“Listen, acknowledge what remains unresolved, then deliver,” he said.

Meanwhile, Tengku Zafrul told reporters at the congress that communication and the dissemination of government policies, including economic matters, needed to be strengthened, as feedback received indicated that the public had not been provided with clear and sufficient information.

“We saw during the recent state elections in Negeri Sembilan and Johor that many people said they had not heard about, or had not received, some of the assistance that had been announced. So, I think there is room for improvement in terms of our communication,” he said.

He also said there were concerns among the public that aspects of the macroeconomy were still not being felt by them.

“We can see that in terms of economic growth, inflation, the unemployment rate and the strength of the ringgit, all indicators show that Malaysia is performing well compared with other countries.

“But at the same time, the people have also voiced concerns that these macroeconomic figures are not being felt by everyone. I have also made several suggestions (to the party leadership) on how we can ensure that our economic progress is felt by everyone,” he said.
