GUA MUSANG, Aug 13 (Bernama) -- The Gua Musang District Council (MDGM) requires an allocation of nearly RM1 million to upgrade and develop the Bandar Lama Gua Musang area as a major tourist destination in the district.
Its president, Mohd Roshdi Ismail, said that the allocation will be used to restore and redevelop several strategic areas identified as having great potential to attract foreign tourists.
He said Bandar Lama has its own uniqueness because it is surrounded by hills and has historical value, including limestone caves and historical areas related to the communist era.
"The initial framework requires an allocation of nearly RM1 million. We will look for the appropriate agency to propose improvements in the Bandar Lama area," he said to reporters here today.
Mohd Roshdi said that among the locations that can be highlighted are the old railroad station at the foothills, which historically is closely related the communist attacks, as well as the grave of a pregnant woman, who was shot dead by communists, located in the Masjid Razaleigh area.
According to Mohd Roshdi, MDGM will collaborate with various agencies including Majlis Amanah Rakyat (MARA) to identify the need for improvements and secure funding for the development of the tourism sector, thereby revitalising the area and boosting the local economy.
