LARUT, Aug 12 (Bernama) -- The Department of Veterans’ Affairs (JHEV) of the Malaysian Armed Forces (MAF) will forge more collaborations with private companies to expand second-career opportunities for MAF veterans after they complete their service.
JHEV MAF director-general Maj Gen Datuk Semaon Marjuki said the collaboration was important to ensure veterans had more employment options suited to their experience, skills and expertise.
“We will continue engaging with industry players to identify job opportunities that match the backgrounds and skills of veterans, while also providing support in terms of training and upskilling.
“For now, one of the approaches being implemented is through the Armed Forces Ex-Servicemen Affairs Corporation (PERHEBAT), which offers courses in various fields to equip them with new skills to sustain their livelihoods after retirement,” he told reporters after officiating the opening of the Batu Kurau branch of the MAF Veterans Foundation Dialysis Centre here today.
He said this when commenting on a recent statement by Kempen Tabung Pahlawan patron Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, who called on private companies to expand second-career opportunities for MAF veterans after they completed their service.
Semaon said that, apart from the private sector, second-career opportunities for veterans were also being expanded through collaborations with government agencies and departments that required experienced personnel.
He said opportunities that had been opened included placing veterans as wardens at MARA Junior Science Colleges (MRSM), with the number of participating institutions having increased from two to 10 MRSMs.
“Not only that, the Malaysian Border Control and Protection Agency (AKPS) has also opened opportunities for our veterans, with an initial target of 220 this year,” he said.
He added that JHEV would continue strengthening various initiatives related to second-career preparation so that veterans would be better equipped to face life after retirement, become self-reliant and maintain their families’ socioeconomic stability.
