Kelantan Remains State With Largest Malay Reserve Land Area - MB

KOTA BHARU, Aug 12 (Bernama) -- The total area of Malay reserve land in Kelantan is recorded at 526,083 hectares (ha) or 91.5 per cent, involving 816,020 ownerships as of June this year.

According to Kelantan Menteri Besar Datuk Mohd Nassuruddin Daud, the area of non-Malay reserve land is 48,344 ha or 8.4 per cent, involving 43,255 titles.

"Based on land administration records up to June 2026, the total area of land ownership in Kelantan is 574,427 ha, involving 859,275 titles.

"Alhamdulillah, Kelantan remains the state with the largest area of Malay reserve land compared to other states in Peninsular Malaysia," he said.

He said this when answering a question from Datuk Abdul Rahman Yunus (PAS-Pasir Tumboh) regarding the current area of Malay reserve land in Kelantan during the State Legislative Assembly sitting at the Kota Darulnaim Complex here today.

Mohd Nassuruddin said that the figure is the adjusted total for all 11 districts, with more than nine-tenths of the total land ownership in the state falling under the Malay reserve category.

"In terms of area, Gua Musang recorded the largest Malay reserve land, which is 122,735 ha, followed by Pasir Mas (56,656 ha), Tanah Merah (56,246 ha) and Kuala Krai (53,473 ha).

"In terms of percentage, Tanah Merah recorded the highest rate at 99.9 per cent, followed by Tumpat, Pasir Puteh, Bachok, Pasir Mas, Kota Bharu and Jeli," he said.

He said that there has been no reduction in the Malay reserve land in Kelantan, whereas Section 13A of the Kelantan Malay Reservations Enactment allows land ownership by non-Malays within the Malay reserve area.

He added that the same provision also grants state authorities the power to regulate transactions within Malay reserve areas, including prohibiting them if they jeopardise the interests of Malay reserves.
