IPOH, Aug 9 (Bernama) -- Recognising that food is one of the instruments that unites various races in this country, the Jom Makan Ipoh 2026 Expo is a platform to promote the diversity and richness of food heritage open to locals and tourists.
Minister of Housing and Local Government and Kepayang assemblyman, Nga Kor Ming said the expo, organised by the Kepayang constituency service centre and several strategic partners, combines the preservation of culinary heritage, food culture education, city branding and tourism promotion.
“Therefore, in conjunction with the Merdeka Month, we have decided to (organise) the Jom Makan Ipoh Expo 2026 as food is not only a tourism product, but it is also a catalyst for national unity.
“Food actually plays an important role in uniting the people, especially the multi-racial community, in line with our slogan, Malaysia, Truly Asia,” he told reporters after officiating the pre-launch of the programme here today.
He said the three-day programme from August 28 to 30 from 5 pm to 11 pm at Palo 101 offers more than 50 food and agricultural product stalls featuring 12 Ipoh specialties, a selection of street food, as well as various selected food and agricultural products.
He said visitors have the opportunity to enjoy a combination of traditional and innovative dishes that reflect the gastronomic identity of Ipoh city.
Among them are Laksa Buyong, Ipoh White Coffee, nasi ayam taugeh, puding taufu and etc.
“To introduce the history and evolution of local food culture, the festival also features six Ipoh Food Culture Galleries such as Ipoh White Coffee, tin mining era food culture, kacang putih, Sambal & Ulam and various other culinary heritages synonymous with this city,” he said.
Various stage programmes were also arranged throughout the three days including cultural performances of various races, a sharing session of "Food Talks Ipoh", the launch of the Ipoh QR Digital Food Map in addition to lucky draws and a fireworks show at the closing ceremony.
Meanwhile, Nga said more than 20,000 visitors were expected to attend the programme.
