SUKMA Selangor 2026 Expected To Generate RM200,000 For Local Traders In Sepang

SEPANG, Aug 9 (Bernama) -- Sepang Municipal Council (MPSepang) is targeting local traders to generate total revenue of about RM200,000 during the Malaysia Games (SUKMA) Selangor 2026 through the provision of business spaces at all competition venues in the district.

MPSepang president Dr Ani Ahmad said the council was placing traders at each SUKMA Selangor 2026 venue to enable 30 local entrepreneurs to capitalise on the presence of athletes, officials and supporters from across the country.

She said 15 traders were being placed at Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), eight food trucks at Universiti Tenaga Nasional (UNITEN), two food trucks at the Bandar Baru Salak Tinggi (BBST) Stadium and five food trucks at the National Velodrome Malaysia.

“The estimated total revenue generated by traders throughout SUKMA Selangor 2026, from Aug 15 to 24, is about RM200,000,” she told Bernama here today.

She said this after the 2026 SUKMA and Para SUKMA Volunteers mega gathering, which was officiated by Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari.

Ani said the initiative would not only spur local economic activity, but also benefit small entrepreneurs and strengthen Sepang’s position as a competitive sports and tourism destination.

“The presence of athletes, officials and supporters from across the country will boost local economic activity while promoting Sepang as a competitive sports and tourism destination,” she said.

She said preparations to make Sepang one of the main venues for SUKMA Selangor 2026 were now at the final stage, with all aspects, including competition venues, logistics, cleanliness, security and coordination with the SUKMA Secretariat and relevant agencies, being further streamlined.

“One of the main focuses is upgrading sports facilities and supporting infrastructure, including fields, tracks, lighting systems, public toilets, pedestrian walkways, parking areas and facilities for persons with disabilities (PwDs),” she said.

In addition, Ani said beautification works around the venues were also being carried out to ensure that Sepang remained clean, comfortable and conducive throughout SUKMA.

She said the council was also working closely with the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), the SUKMA Secretariat and relevant agencies to plan traffic and transportation management, including venue entry and exit routes, parking areas, directional signboards and traffic control.

Commenting on the legacy of SUKMA Selangor 2026, Ani said the Games were expected to leave behind better-quality sports facilities, promote an active lifestyle among the community and strengthen Sepang’s image as a town capable of hosting national-level competitions.

She said MPSepang also aimed to establish Sepang as a modern and competitive sports hub through the continuous hosting of competitions, the provision of quality sports facilities and grassroots talent development.

Sepang will host six SUKMA Selangor 2026 events, namely men’s football at the BBST Stadium, athletics at the UPM Stadium, silat at the Sri Sarjana Hall, UNITEN, archery at the Institut Penilaian Negara (INSPEN) Stadium, road cycling at Persiaran Pantai Utara Sepang Putra and track cycling at the National Velodrome Malaysia in neighbouring Nilai.
