SINGAPORE, Aug 8 (Bernama) -- Singapore will unveil a renewed plan to strengthen government support for Singaporean families amid ongoing global uncertainties, Prime Minister Lawrence Wong said.
In his National Day Message 2026 on Saturday, Wong said the government is undertaking a major review of its support for families, extending beyond the stages of marriage and parenthood to encompass the different phases of life.
He said the government aspired for Singapore to be a place where everyone could pursue their aspirations with confidence, raise their families with peace of mind and look to the future with hope.
"We are taking a fresh look at issues like the costs of raising children, access to affordable infant care and childcare, and other ways to lighten the load on families.
"I will share more about these plans at the National Day Rally," he said in a video message in conjunction with Singapore 61st National Day which will be celebrated on Sunday.
Wong also emphasised that the government would put in place stronger safeguards to protect children and help them navigate the digital world safely and responsibly.
He noted that parents were increasingly concerned about the impact of social media on children and young people, particularly the effects of excessive use on their mental well-being, relationships and healthy development.
"As technology evolves, we will continue to shape it in ways that serve our people and strengthen our society," he added.
