Step-grandfather Dies Six Hours After Burial Of Constable Muhammad Raimi

DUNGUN, Aug 8 (Bernama) -- About six hours after burying his beloved grandson who died after he was believed to have been electrocuted while on duty in Beaufort, Sabah, a step-grandfather died at Felda Kerteh 5 near here.

Harun Awang Ngah, 70, the step-grandfather of Constable Muhammad Raimi Ismarubee, 24, breathed his last at 7.15 am today while still mourning the loss of his grandson.

Muhammad Raimi's father, Ismarubee Ismail, 51, said Harun, who had been suffering from colon cancer, died at his home this morning.

He said his son's remains, who was stationed at the Weston Police Station, were buried at 1.15 am today.

"My stepfather cried when he was told that his grandson had died after being electrocuted while on duty. Today, my stepfather died while still grieving the loss of his beloved grandson," he told reporters at the Felda Kerteh 5 Muslim Cemetery here today.

Ismarubee said Harun was one of the happiest persons when his son joined the police force in 2024.

"My son was also very close to his step-grandfather and would often visit him whenever he returned to the village during his leave," he said.

Bernama reported yesterday that the remains of Constable Muhammad Raimi, who died after allegedly being electrocuted at Jalan Weston, Kampung Weston, Beaufort, Sabah on Thursday, were buried at the Felda Kerteh 2 Muslim Cemetery near here at 1.15 am today.

In the incident at about 5.50 pm, Muhammad Raimi, together with Corporal Chiu Teck Siong, 40, and Corporal Mohamad Nur Hafiz Ibrahim, 29, who were stationed at the same police station, died after allegedly being electrocuted.

The three officers were believed to have been attempting to move a metal pole used to harvest coconuts outside the Weston Police Station when it hit a main power cable and electrocuted them.
