SEREMBAN, Aug 1 (Bernama) -- Voting for the 16th Negeri Sembilan state election officially ended after all 401 polling centres across the state closed at 6 pm today.
As of 4 pm, 65.38 per cent, or 562,133 of the 859,760 registered voters, including 7,391 postal voters, had cast their ballots.
The Election Commission (EC) had earlier projected voter turnout for the election to reach between 72 and 75 per cent, with early results expected as soon as 10 pm today.
Attention now turns to the outcome of the contest, with 36 of the 103 candidates vying to secure the people's mandate for seats in the State Legislative Assembly.
Meanwhile, to ensure the transparency of the democratic process, the opening of postal ballot envelopes has begun and is being broadcast live on the EC's official Facebook platform.
The state election features 103 candidates contesting 36 State Legislative Assembly seats, with Pakatan Harapan (PH) fielding candidates in all constituencies, followed by Barisan Nasional (BN) with 25, Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) with 24, Perikatan Nasional (PN) with 11, and four Independent candidates. Barisan Jamaah Islamiah Se-Malaysia (Berjasa), Parti Orang Asli Malaysia (ASLI) and Parti Sosialis Malaysia (PSM) are each fielding one candidate.
