SEREMBAN, July 28 (Bernama) -- A total of 22,339 military and police personnel and their spouses will cast their ballots today in the early voting for the 16th Negeri Sembilan state election.
Of the total, 16,884 are military personnel and their spouses, while 5,455 are police personnel and their spouses.
All 38 polling centres will open at 8 am and will close in stages according to their respective locations, with 18 centres closing at noon, two at 2 pm and the remaining at 5 pm.
The centres include the Army Basic Training Centre (PUSASDA) in Port Dickson, the Sendayan Air Base and the Negeri Sembilan Police Contingent headquarters in Seremban, the Nilai Police headquarters, and Syed Sirajuddin Military Camp in Gemas, Tampin.
Meanwhile, the Malaysian Meteorological Department has forecast fair weather across most areas of the state this morning, except in Port Dickson, where heavy rain and thunderstorms are expected, before heavy rain spreads to almost the entire state in the afternoon.
The state election will see contest for 36 seats, involving 103 candidates.
Pakatan Harapan (PH) is fielding candidates in all 36 seats, while Barisan Nasional (BN) is contesting 25 seats, Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) 24, and Perikatan Nasional (PN) 11.
Also contesting are Barisan Jemaah Islamiah Se-Malaysia (Berjasa), Parti Orang Asli Malaysia (ASLI) and Parti Sosialis Malaysia (PSM), each fielding one candidate, as well as four Independents.
The 15th Negeri Sembilan state election, held in 2023, saw PH win 17 of the 36 seats, followed by BN with 14 and PN with five.
The state legislative assembly was dissolved on June 5 to pave the way for the election. Polling is on Aug 1.
