Azeem Sprints Away With Asian U-23 Gold In Ordos

KUALA LUMPUR, July 9 (Bernama) -- National sprinter Muhammad Azeem Mohd Fahmi proved to be in a class of his own after snatching the gold medal in the 100-meter (m) event at the 2026 Asian Under-23 Athletics Championships in Ordos, China, today.

The 22-year-old athlete displayed a powerful run to win the final with a time of 10.17 seconds (s), defeating Iraqi challenger Falah Hasan Al-Khazaali, who took the silver with a time of 10.21s while the bronze medal went to Qatari runner Salah Nur I A Yunis with a time of 10.23s.

Earlier, the 22-year-old athlete secured his spot in the final after emerging as one of the fastest runners in the semifinals with a time of 10.15s.

Muhammad Azeem is also preparing himself to face a bigger challenge at the Aichi-Nagoya 2026 Asian Games in Japan this coming September, which is his main target for the season.

The sprint ace also holds the National 100m record with a time of 10.09s which was set during the World Under 20 Athletics Championship held at Cali, Colombia in 2022.
