PUTRAJAYA, July 3 (Bernama) -- The Election Commission (EC) has received 305 reports and complaints involving various campaign offences during the 16th Johor State Election campaign period as of July 2.
In a statement tonight, the EC said 140 cases involved campaign materials displayed in restricted areas designated by local authorities, while 90 involved materials obstructing the view of road users and traffic.
It said 27 cases involved campaign materials placed within a 50-metre radius of polling centres, while the remaining 48 involved other offences.
"All reports and complaints received under the jurisdiction of the Election Campaign Enforcement Team (PP-KPR) have been met with appropriate follow-up action," the commission said.
A total of 56 Election Campaign Enforcement Teams (PP-KPR) were established to enforce the Election Offences Act 1954 throughout the campaign period, which runs from nomination day on June 27 until July 10.
The EC said it continues to work closely with the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) and the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) to ensure campaign activities proceed smoothly and remain under control.
It urged all candidates and political parties contesting the election to comply with the laws, regulations, code of ethics and directives issued by the EC and other enforcement agencies to ensure a smooth campaign process.
The commission also reiterated its commitment to conducting an efficient, fair, transparent and credible election, including throughout the campaign period, which ends at 11.59 pm on July 10.
The Johor State Election has attracted 172 candidates contesting 56 state seats, with polling on July 11 and early voting on July 7.
