JASIN, July 3 (Bernama) -- SWM Environment Sdn Bhd and Jasin Community College have signed a letter of intent to establish a strategic partnership focusing on sustainable waste management and the circular economy.
SWM Environment corporate general manager, Mohd Norlisam Mohd Nordin, said the partnership, encompassing education, human capital development, skills training, and community empowerment, would benefit not only the concessionaire, but also the college's students, faculty, and the local community.
"Through this strategic partnership, SWM Environment and Jasin Community College will explore various avenues for sharing knowledge, expertise, equipment, and facilities," he said, adding that the collaboration will also cover consultancy, training, and professional certification, with a specific focus on sustainable waste management, including recycling and segregation at source.
"Details of the programmes to be implemented will be discussed next, and we will organise appropriate initiatives that bring mutual benefits and add real value to both sides," he told reporters today following the signing ceremony at the college.
At the ceremony, SWM Environment was represented by Mohd Norlisam, and Jasin Community College by its director, Mohamad Kelana Juwit.
Mohd Norlisam said the partnership would also strengthen ties between the industry and higher education institutions, thereby boosting graduate employability and driving economic growth through the circular economy.
He added that the initiative aims to raise a future generation that is more conscious of sustainability and sustainable waste management.
"This is not a new initiative, as SWM Environment has already teamed up with several other public and private universities and colleges to build and raise awareness about the importance of sustainable waste management across these institutions.
"SWM Environment always focuses on the 'GUCI' approach or 'Government-University-Community- Industry' which allows us to build the strategic partnerships needed to deliver sustainable solid waste management,” he said.
Meanwhile, Mohamad Kelana said the partnership aligns with the National Education Blueprint 2026-2035, specifically under the pillar of fostering sustainability and planetary health to embed these values among the college community.
"As a Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institution that consistently prioritises graduate employability, Jasin Community College is committed to expanding its partnership network with industry,” he said, adding that this ensures students gain a more holistic learning experience, ultimately producing competent, highly skilled graduates who meet the demands of the job market.
He hopes the tie-up will pave the way for more high-impact projects in the future, bringing together the college, local residents, and strategic partners.
