Ipoh City Music Month Promotes Music As The City’s Identity

IPOH, July 2 (Bernama) -- The Ipoh City Music Month is more than a series of performances, but a movement to make music part of the city’s identity, said Perak Tourism, Industry, Investment and Corridor Development Committee chairman Loh Sze Yee.

He said a range of activities are being and will be organised throughout July, including the Harmony Music Cup, a leisure music run, Jom Menyanyi Bersama, Music in Every Corner of the City and Perak On Beat.

“We want the entire city to feel the heartbeat of music, because a great city is not only defined by beautiful buildings but by one filled with smiles, creativity and life.

“I believe that one day, when people mention Ipoh, they will not only think of white coffee, bean sprouts chicken, delicious food or its historical heritage,” he said when officiating the prize-giving ceremony of the 3rd Harmony Music Cup International Music Competition and Ipoh City Music Month 2026 here today.

Organised by the Ipoh Chinese Cultural and Orchestra Association, the competition attracted around 3,000 participants from more than 100 teams nationwide, as well as from Taiwan and China.

Loh said the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture (MOTAC) had approved RM100,000 in funding, with the state government also allocating RM50,000 to support events held for Ipoh City Music Month.

“May this allocation serve as a catalyst for organisers to continue raising Ipoh’s profile to greater heights, making it one of the most anticipated international music events in Malaysia,” he added.
