ISKANDAR PUTERI, May 4 (Bernama) -- Johor’s state revenue reached RM1 billion as of April 30, marking an increase of RM307 million compared with the same period last year.
Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi said the state government is committed to ensuring that every increase in revenue is channelled back to the people through high-impact initiatives.
He said several initiatives will continue to be implemented, including Phase Four of the Bantuan Kasih Johor (BKJ) with an allocation of RM138 million, benefiting more than 600,000 people.
“Whenever we go to the ground and engage with the people, we receive various suggestions to ensure more Bangsa Johor can benefit from this assistance. Therefore, today, I am pleased to announce 22 initiatives under Phase Four of BKJ,” said Onn Hafiz (BN-Machap).
He said this in response to an oral question during the First Meeting of the Fifth Term of the 15th Johor State Legislative Assembly at Bangunan Sultan Ismail here today.
Onn Hafiz was responding to questions from Nor Rashidah Ramli (BN-Parit Raja), Tan Chong (BN-Bekok), Anuar Abd Manap (BN-Pemanis), Datuk Mohamad Najib Samuri (BN-Parit Yaani), Mohd Yusla Ismail (BN-Senggarang), Haslinda Salleh (BN-Tenang), Datuk Mohd Fuad Tukirin (BN-Bukit Naning) and Tan Eng Meng (BN-Pekan Nanas) on the cost of living and public well-being in the state.
Onn Hafiz said Phase Four of the BKJ initiative covers various segments of society, including senior citizens, housewives, young couples, small traders, persons with disabilities, orphans, as well as community leaders and volunteers.
Among the key initiatives are RM200 cash assistance for more than 307,000 senior citizens and 136,000 non-working housewives, as well as RM400 for 45,000 newly married couples.
“In addition, RM300 assistance will be channelled to nearly 30,000 registered caregivers and small traders to support their economic sustainability,” he said.
He added that Phases One to Three of BKJ previously covered more than 100 initiatives with a total allocation of nearly RM400 million.
Meanwhile, Onn Hafiz said the state government will also expand the New Housing Subsidy Assistance, Free Housing Assistance, and the Repair of Dilapidated Houses programme, in addition to announcing an increase of RM30 million for the Kasih Johor Sales initiative compared to RM15.4 million previously.
“This brings the total allocation for the Kasih Johor Sales initiative to RM45.4 million, benefiting 750,200 Johoreans,” he said.
He added that the state government will also continue implementing the Kasih Combo Sale priced at RM15, comprising one whole chicken, a tray of eggs and two litres of cooking oil, as a measure to help reduce household expenses.
