MELAKA, May 3 (Bernama) -- The Melaka government, through relevant agencies, is updating resident profile data for households in 618 villages involved in the Digital Village initiative to support better planning of development programmes and improve community well-being.
State Science, Technology, Innovation and Digital Communications Committee chairman Datuk Fairul Nizam Roslan said the process is being carried out after all houses in the villages completed registration under a new standardised digital addressing system equipped with quick response (QR) codes to facilitate location tracking.
He said the update covers detailed demographic and socio-economic information, which is crucial for national development planning and more targeted and effective aid distribution through various state and federal agencies, including the Department of Statistics Malaysia.
“All houses in the villages involved have been assigned new addresses, and the process of updating resident profile data under the Digital Village initiative is being actively implemented through relevant state agencies in collaboration with the Village Development and Security Committee (JPKK).
“Through this data, the state government can better understand residents’ backgrounds, facilitate planning and help identify the needs of communities in the affected villages,” he told reporters here today.
He said this after officiating the opening of the Wakil Rakyat Untuk Rakyat (WRUR) programme for the Ayer Molek state constituency, which was also attended by its assemblyman Datuk Rahmad Mariman.
Elaborating, Fairul Nizam said a free identity card replacement campaign for residents in the Digital Villages is also being carried out through outreach programmes, including WRUR, which is being implemented in stages across all state constituencies.
Meanwhile, Rahmad said more than 100 programmes involving people from various races and backgrounds have been planned throughout the WRUR programme in Ayer Molek, which runs from today until May 10.
He said the programmes are aimed not only at engaging with the people but also at resolving local issues, ultimately bringing positive impact to the community.
