JAKARTA, Jan 4 (Bernama-ANTARA) -- The Indonesian Immigration and Corrections Ministry has prepared 968 locations nationwide for the implementation of community service sentences under the new Criminal Code (KUHP), which came into effect on Friday, reported ANTARA news agency.
"Through the heads of correctional centres across Indonesia, we have coordinated with regional governments and partners to support the implementation of non-custodial community service sentences," Minister of Immigration and Corrections, Agus Andrianto, said in a statement on Saturday.
He said the designated locations include school sanitation facilities, places of worship, city parks, orphanages, and Islamic boarding schools.
In addition, the ministry has prepared 94 facilities managed by correctional centres to provide supervision and guidance for offenders serving community service sentences.
Andrianto added that 1,880 partner institutions linked to correctional centres are ready to support the implementation of the sentences.
He expressed hope that the policy would help reduce overcrowding in correctional facilities and detention centres.
He said the community service sentence is also expected to improve the quantity and quality of inmate development programmes, producing rehabilitated individuals who are aware of their mistakes and economically and professionally independent.
Andrianto noted that a letter outlining preparations, including designated locations, was sent to the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court on November 26, 2025.
Meanwhile, Director General of Corrections Mashudi said 2,686 probation officers are ready for deployment, and a proposal has been submitted to recruit an additional 11,000 officers.
