ALOR GAJAH, Jan 3 (Bernama) -- The Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE) has spent RM1.2 million to construct an open hall and upgrade a futsal court at Kampung Pulau, Masjid Tanah, under the Kampung Angkat MADANI programme.

Secretary-general Datuk Dr Anesee Ibrahim said RM1 million was allocated for the construction of the open hall by the Alor Gajah Municipal Council (MPAG), while RM200,000 was set aside for the upgrading of the futsal court by Universiti Teknikal Malaysia Melaka (UTeM).

“Kampung Pulau was selected as MOHE’s Kampung Angkat MADANI in mid-2024, with UTeM appointed as the implementing agency.

“This programme is aligned with the Malaysia MADANI aspiration, which emphasises compassion, well-being and social responsibility,” he said in his speech here today.

Anesee later handed over the replica of a key to the hall to Melaka Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh, who is also Tanjung Bidara assemblyman.

Anesee said five community guidance programmes had also been implemented under the Kampung Angkat MADANI programme and carried out by UTeM.

The initiatives are a fertigation-based melon planting project, a used cooking oil recycling programme, an IoT-based aquaponics pilot project, a food and beverage entrepreneurship course for Kampung Pulau women, and a STEM awareness programme.

“Through the sharing of knowledge, the government’s aim to foster digital literacy and soft skills among the community, as well as to cultivate leadership and character development among university students through volunteerism and community service activities, can be realised.

“I am confident that Kampung Pulau residents will benefit greatly from the implementation of the Kampung Angkat MADANI programme, and I hope the collaboration between higher education institutions and the community can continue in the future,” he said.

Meanwhile, Ab Rauf said the development of the Kampung Pulau Open Hall should serve as a pilot model for the creation of rural community spaces functioning as centres for social activities, youth engagement, and knowledge transfer with universities.

He added that the facility is expected to directly benefit more than 400 Kampung Pulau residents, with the potential to host dozens of community programmes each year.
