KOTA KINABALU, Dec 17 (Bernama) -- Money used from the Justice For Zara Fund account is clearly recorded and accounted for, said Noraidah Lamat, mother of the late Zara Qairina Mahathir.
Noraidah, 45, stated that her side had been advised to only conduct an audit of the fund once the inquest proceedings and her daughter’s case has been concluded.
In relation to this, she urged all parties to stop defaming Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs), Marhamah Rosli, who was the activist who initiated the Justice for Zara movement.
“To those who enjoy defaming her (Marhamah), please read and understand this. The fund was only open for two days and has since been closed. Every use of the funds is clearly recorded, and we have been advised to only perform the audit once the inquest proceedings and the case are over,” she said.
She said this in a Facebook post which included a news headline from a portal stating: “Marhamah addresses controversy over misuse of funds in the management of the Justice for Zara Fund account.”
Earlier today, when met by reporters in Kuala Lumpur, Marhamah stressed that no funds were misused in the management of the Justice for Zara Fund account, which was established to cover the cost of the inquest process.
She explained that the fund's account is completely segregated and not mixed with the accounts of other non-governmental organisations (NGOs) she previously chaired. Furthermore, the account has specific nominees, including Noraidah and several lawyers.
Marhamah was among the first individuals to offer support to Noraidah after her daughter, Zara Qairina, a student at a religious secondary school in Papar, was confirmed dead on July 17.
Zara Qairina, a Form One student, had previously been found unconscious at the base of the school's hostel building.
