SEA Games: Five Malaysian Badminton Representatives Storm Into Quarter-Finals

BANGKOK, Dec 11 (Bernama) -- Five Malaysian representatives made their way to the quarter-finals of badminton event in the SEA Games Thailand 2025 in Pathum Thani, today.

National men’s singles player and fourth seeds Leong Jun Hao took 32 minutes to subdue Vixunnalath Phichith, winning 21-15, 21-15, at Gymnasium 4, Thammasat University Rangsit Campus.

The world number 28 player will face home player Panitchaphon Teeraratsakul who thumped Phone Pyae Naing of Myanmar, 21-9, 21-10.

Another national men’s singles shuttler, Justin Hoh, stunned third seeds Jason Teh of Singapore, 22-20, 21-15 in 50 minutes.

The 21-year-old is set to play Kantaphon Wangcharoen after the Thai player prevailed against Hein Htut from Myanmar, 21-10, 21-13.

In women’s singles action, both K. Letshanaa and Wong Ling Ching advanced to the last eight as they disposed both Singaporean players namely Jaslyn Hooi 21-17, 22-20 and Insyirah Khan 21-16, 21-15, respectively.

Letshanaa will meet top seed Putri Kusuma Wardani of Indonesia, who received a bye in the first round.

Ling Ching, on the other hand, will lock horns against Ni Kadek Dhinda Amartya, also from Indonesia, who came from behind to eliminate Vietnam’s Nguyen Thuy Linh, 16-21, 22-20, 21-14.

Earlier today, national mixed doubles pair Hoo Pang Ron-Cheng Su Yin did not have much problem to breeze past Solomon Jr. Padiz-Mary Destiny Untal, 21-8, 21-14, in 26 minutes.

The world number 21 duo will be up against home favourite and second seed Dechapol Puavaranukroh-Supissara Paewsampran, who received a bye in the opening round, in the last eight tomorrow.

The SEA Games Thailand 2025 is taking place from Dec 9 to 20 across two provinces – Bangkok and Chonburi.
