KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 10 (Bernama) -- The government has approved five investment projects involving Indian companies in Malaysia, worth RM23.85 million, for the first nine months of 2025, said Deputy Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry Liew Chin Tong.

He said the implementation of these projects is expected to create more than 270 new job opportunities for Malaysians.

"Based on Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA)  records for the period from 1980 to September 2025, the total value of manufacturing projects with Indian participation realised up to June 2025 stands at RM4.88 billion.

"It involves 176 projects across various industries, including pharmaceuticals, medical devices, chemicals and chemical products, metal fabrication, oleochemicals, and machinery and equipment - creating over 16,000 new job opportunities," he said during a question-and-answer session in the Dewan Negara today.

Liew was responding to Senator Datuk Seri Vell Paari's question regarding the status of investments between Malaysia and India, as well as the positive impact on the country, especially in terms of investments by major Indian companies.

Further elaborating, Liew said Malaysia is also currently finalising a semiconductor cooperation agreement with India to deepen collaboration in developing a complete and resilient semiconductor industry value chain.

According to Liew, the Advanced Semiconductor Academy Malaysia (ASEM) has entered into a strategic partnership with the Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras Global) to explore high-impact collaborations aimed at strengthening Malaysia's position in the global technology ecosystem.

"India is rapidly developing its semiconductor industry, and Malaysia already has a very complete ecosystem. Our ecosystem can provide technological support and a strong talent pool to the Indian ecosystem," he added.
