KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 4 (Bernama) -- The Islamic Tourism Month (ITM) 2025, which took place from August to September, successfully achieved a sales target of RM2.65 million, with a portion of it generated through the Mosque Open Day (MOD) visits.
Deputy Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture, Khairul Firdaus Akbar Khan, said the ITM 2025, which was the fourth edition organised by the Islamic Tourism Centre (ITC), also met its target of 160 strategic partners, including participation from TGV Cinemas, Keretapi Sarong, Mohd Chan Group Berhad, and IslamiCruise.
"For 2025, MOD was held at eight mosques nationwide and attracted over 3,000 visitors, helping the nearby communities generate an income of more than RM16,000. This brings the cumulative total sales income through all ITM series to over RM7 million," he said when speaking at the ITM 2025 Appreciation Ceremony here today.
Also present were the Secretary-General of the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture, Datuk Shaharuddin Abu Sohot, and the acting Director-General of ITC, Nur Alyssa Coraline Yussin.
He said ITM 2025 also received extensive media coverage with an audience reach exceeding 340 million, while the ITM TikTok Challenge garnered 144 entries with 1.7 million views.
Elaborating further, Khairul Firdaus said the efficiency of planning, programme creativity, and diligence of the ITC team made ITM 2025 not just an annual event but a movement that opened economic opportunities for tourism micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), strengthened community relations, and highlighted Malaysia as a tourist-friendly destination.
Meanwhile, Shaharuddin said ITM 2025 proved that Malaysia can offer experiences that comply with international standards without sacrificing cultural uniqueness and hospitality.
"The next challenge is to sustainably strengthen these standards, empower more MSMEs to access market opportunities, and continue targeted marketing to attract quality tourist segments. For that purpose, ITC will continue to play a vital role," he said.
At the ceremony, 30 hotels, tour operators, and travel agencies were celebrated and received the Muslim-Friendly Tourism and Hospitality Assurance and Recognition (MFAR).
Shaharuddin also presented prizes to @myhalalexplorer, who won the grand prize of the ITM 2025 TikTok Challenge and took home a seven-day, six-night tourism package for two to Xi'an, China, a RM1,000 prepaid card, a RM600 Siti Khadijah voucher, and one TGV ticket.
Second place was won by @mamaaisyatihani, who took home a three-day, two-night Islamic cruise package for two with Aroya Cruises, a RM1,000 prepaid card, a RM500 Siti Khadijah voucher, and one TGV ticket.
Shaharuddin also presented appreciation certificates to the media, including the Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama) and IKIMfm radio station, which covered and ensured the success of ITM 2025.
