CAMBODIA

1. INDIA FUNDS BARISTA SKILLS DEVELOPMENT -- AGENCE KAMPUCHEA PRESSE 

India will extend a grant to Cambodia to develop skilled workers for the barista and beverages sector. The initiative comes under the Quick Impact Projects programme to procure modern, industry-standard barista and beverage training equipment.

The government will enhance joint research and promote knowledge sharing to support national strategies. It will also encourage export diversification to drive job creation and support technology-based manufacturing.

1. JAPAN TO UPGRADE PROVINCIAL HOSPITAL -- VIENTIANE TIMES 

Japan has pledged RM74 million (US$18 million) to upgrade healthcare facilities in Laos' southern region. The funds will be used to upgrade hospital infrastructure, strengthen technical capacity and provide modern medical equipment.

1. NEW ALCOHOL SALE HOURS TAKE EFFECT NATIONWIDE -- THE NATION

The Royal Gazette has announced new nationwide hours for alcohol sales, allowing purchases from 11am to midnight, including a 2pm–5pm window on a 180-day trial basis, with exemptions for airports, entertainment venues and hotels.

 

2. THAILAND SEEKS TO SPEED UP BORDER TALKS -- BANGKOK POST

The government is pushing to accelerate border discussions with Cambodia to ensure that all Cambodian nationals residing Ban Nong Chan in Sa Kaeo province can be relocated before the end of January, Defence Minister Nattaphon Narkphanit said on Wednesday.

 

VIETNAM

1. HANOI BATTLING CRITICAL AIR POLLUTION -- VIETNAMPLUS

Hanoi is taking measures to control air pollution and monitor activities to address the environmental issue. Cement and steel factories may have to temporarily suspend operations or adjust operating hours if air quality remains hazardous.

 

2. MOVING TOWARDS SUSTAINABLE FISHING -- VIETNAMPLUS 

The Quang Tri province with over 191 km of coastline and 8,000 fishing vessels, is stepping up efforts to eradicate illegal, unreported and unregulated fishing. These efforts are to abide by international requirements.
