KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 3 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian government has upgraded a clinic at the Ma’had Tafaqquh Tahfiz Centre in Riau, Indonesia, which has been named the Madani Clinic, for the benefit of students, teachers, and the local community.

The Malaysian Consulate in Pekanbaru, in a statement on Wednesday, stated that the project to upgrade the existing clinic at the tahfiz centre, which began last July, was completed on Nov 25 and incurred a total cost of 89 million Rupiah (RM22,100).

The project was funded by the Malaysia-Indonesia Relations Strategic Fund managed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Previously, a hostel located within the tahfiz centre’s compound was used to provide medical care for 370 students as well as 70 teachers and staff.

The clinic is now equipped with additional facilities such as a lobby, a doctor’s consultation room, an emergency room, an inpatient treatment area, a pharmacy, a waiting area, public restrooms, patient restrooms, and a prayer room for patients.

The Consul of Malaysia in Pekanbaru, Mohammed Hosnie Shahiran Ismail, handed over the Madani Clinic to the founder of the Ma’had Tafaqquh Tahfiz Centre, Dr. Mustafa Umar, in a key handover ceremony on Tuesday (Dec 2).

He stated that the effort to upgrade the clinic stemmed from the spirit of compassion, which is one of the key principles upheld by the MADANI Malaysian Government.

“Hence, the name Madani Clinic was chosen to reflect the noble values and concern of the Malaysian Government towards their ethnic kin in Riau Province," according to the statement.

He hoped that the clinic would benefit the students of Ma’had Tafaqquh and the local community once it obtains approval from the Indonesian Ministry of Health.

The Ma’had Tafaqquh Tahfiz Centre was established in Lubuk Sakat Village, Kampar, Riau, on a 14-hectare plot of land and began operations in 2018.

The Consulate of Malaysia in Pekanbaru was established in 1983. It is responsible for looking after Malaysia's interests in Riau Province and Riau Islands Province.
