ISTANBUL, Nov 28 (Bernama-Xinhua) -- Turkish police detained 1,022 people for various crimes during a large-scale security operation across Istanbul, authorities announced on Friday, reported Xinhua.
The Istanbul Police Department said its "Peace Istanbul" operation was conducted late Thursday, with support from a police helicopter and marine police boats.
Nearly 3,000 officers were deployed across the city, establishing checkpoints, inspecting public venues and conducting ID checks.
More than 363,000 people underwent background screening, and 528 of the detainees were suspects wanted for various offences.
Security teams also seized unlicensed firearms, blank pistols, rifles and ammunition, as well as over one kilogramme of illegal narcotics and cash believed to be linked to drug sales.
Authorities inspected nearly 200 companies and carried out extensive traffic checks. Officials said the operation was part of the ongoing efforts to strengthen public safety in Türkiye's largest city.
