10 Southern Thai Provinces Remain Flooded As Authorities Ramp Up Relief Efforts

BANGKOK, Nov 23 (Bernama) -- Flooding persisted across 10 southern Thai provinces on Sunday morning, impacting over 124,000 households and prompting the mobilisation of additional disaster-relief resources.

Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM) reported that the flood situation in the South remains critical, with 10 provinces still under water, while flooding also impacted residents in 11 provinces across the North and Central regions.

DDPM Director-General Teerapat Kachamat said the department has urgently mobilised additional personnel, operational teams and disaster-relief machinery from its regional centres nationwide to reinforce ongoing operations in the South.

“These teams are working in close coordination with provincial authorities to ensure affected residents receive assistance as quickly as possible,” he said in a statement on Sunday.

Teerapat said that as of 6am Sunday (Nov 23), flooding persists in 10 southern provinces -- Surat Thani, Krabi, Nakhon Si Thammarat, Trang, Phatthalung, Satun, Songkhla, Pattani, Yala and Narathiwat.

He said the floods have affected 86 districts, 515 sub-districts and 3,620 villages, impacting 653,568 households or 1,475,089 people.

“DDPM has instructed its regional disaster prevention centres nationwide to mobilise relief machinery and operational teams to the South to support efforts led by DDPM Region 11 (Surat Thani) and Region 12 (Songkhla) in assisting affected communities,” he added.

Meanwhile, in the North and Central regions, 11 provinces -- Phitsanulok, Nakhon Sawan, Uthai Thani, Sing Buri, Chainat, Ang Thong, Suphan Buri, Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya, Pathum Thani, Nonthaburi and Nakhon Pathom -- are still experiencing flooding caused by river overflow and flash floods in the Chao Phraya River Basin.

Teerapat said the floods cover 49 districts, 440 sub-districts and 2,896 villages, affecting 144,733 households or 488,526 people.

“Water levels have begun to recede overall. DDPM will continue to monitor the situation and coordinate relief efforts until conditions return to normal,” he said.

Authorities urged residents in high-risk areas to closely follow official updates and warnings. Those ordered to evacuate should move immediately to designated safe zones.
