KUANTAN, Nov 18 (Bernama) -- The newly introduced Pahang Safe Dining Destination Programme (DMMSNP) is expected to draw more visitors to sample Pahang cuisine, particularly at certified eateries across the state.

State Public Works, Transport and Health Committee chairman Datuk Ir. Razali Kassim said local and foreign tourists would have greater confidence in these eateries as they meet the hygiene and safety standards set by the Pahang Health Department (JKN).

He said that to date, 52 food premises have been certified, based on four key assessment criteria, adding that the programme represents a new approach to enhancing health monitoring systems at food establishments while promoting popular dining spots across the state.

“The programme assesses four key areas: food hygiene and safety, basic halal/syariah compliance, adherence to regulations by the Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry and monitoring by local authorities,” he said at a press conference after launching the DMMSNP  here today.

Razali noted that the effort could increase the income and economic prospects of local entrepreneurs and also position Pahang as a premier culinary destination ahead of Visit Malaysia Year 2026.

“Five food establishments selected from 11 districts in Pahang bring the total to 55, although three more outlets will receive their certificates at a later date,” he added.

Meanwhile, he said that JKN had inspected 10,188 food outlets across Pahang as of last month.

“Of the establishments inspected, 9,882 were certified as clean, while 306 were ordered to close for up to 14 days under Section 11 of the Food Act 1983. Pahang JKN also issued 4,767 notices under Section 32B of the same Act and collected compounds totalling over RM1.29 million,” he said.
