Labuan To Benefit From International Cruise Calls - Labuan Port Authority

LABUAN, Nov 14 (Bernama) -- Labuan is poised to gain long-term economic and tourism benefits from international cruise ships calling at its port.

Labuan Port Authority (LPA) general manager Mizool Amir Mat Drus said this would position Labuan on the global tourism map as an attractive destination offering diverse experiences, from cultural heritage and eco-tourism to scenic islands and pristine beaches.

“Cruise tourism will generate economic opportunities and boost Labuan’s visibility internationally,” he told Bernama today.

He said the move aligns with the objectives outlined in the Labuan Development Blueprint under its tourism agenda, which aims to transform the island into a tourism hub in East Malaysia. 

International cruise arrivals will complement efforts to enhance the island’s tourism infrastructure and service standards.

The Labuan Port Authority is ready to work closely with existing port operator Megah Port Management Sdn Bhd (MPM) whose sister company has experience managing international cruise operations at major ports nationwide, including in Brunei and Singapore. 

The partnership ensures Labuan adopts best practices in cruise handling, safety, and passenger management in line with international standards, Mizool Amir said after attending the recent Transport Expo Asia 2025 Conference.

“The conference served as a premier platform for sharing insights on cruise tourism potential, port readiness, digital transformation, and ASEAN maritime connectivity. Delegates explored how innovation, sustainability, and infrastructure upgrades could position Malaysia as a leading cruise and logistics hub,” he said.
