BALIK PULAU, Nov 8 (Bernama) -- The open payment toll collection system using automatic number plate recognition (ANPR) technology is currently at the Request for Proposal (RFP) stage, said Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi.

He said the Works Ministry (KKR) is calling on all interested parties to submit proposals for the implementation of the barrier-free toll system, which forms part of the strategic measures towards a more efficient and effective Multi-Lane Free Flow (MLFF) system.

“We also apply the business-to-business method. We are still open to proposals from interested parties.

“The barrier-free toll system implementation is expected to be finalised next year, as we do not want to rush and need pay close attention to details given its major implications for various parties,” he told reporters after visiting the slope repair project on the FT006 route, Section 40.84 of Jalan Balik Pulau-Teluk Bahang here today.

The ANPR system identifies vehicle registration numbers via cameras, enabling digital toll payments without cash, while also offering e-invoice displays, transaction verification, and various other mobility services through an integrated digital platform.

Users only need to register online using their personal identification, vehicle details, and preferred payment method.

Meanwhile, Nanta said KKR had conducted a comprehensive study by reviewing the implementation of Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) in several developed countries.

“I have just returned from Korea with representatives from the Public Works Department (JKR) and KKR. We have also visited other countries several times to observe how they implement ITS,” he said.
