Sudan Hails Malaysia As Trusted Peace Partner, Seeks Role In Post-conflict Reconstruction

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 5 (Bernama) -- Sudan has hailed Malaysia as a trusted partner and a leading voice for global peace, praising its stand against continued attacks by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF).

Sudan’s Ambassador to Malaysia, Hassan Abdelsalam Omer, said his country also viewed Malaysia as a strategic partner in its post-conflict reconstruction once stability is restored.

He said Sudan values Malaysia’s principled stand against RSF atrocities and sees Kuala Lumpur as a nation that consistently shows empathy, solidarity, and leadership in defending Sudanese civilians.

"Malaysia is the leading country in our Islamic Ummah and we are really looking for a bigger role for Malaysia.

“We always look to Malaysia as a strategic partner in the rebuilding of the country when things go back to normal. I'm really thrilled by the wide sympathy and support we received over the last few days from the Malaysian government, public and humanitarian organisations," he said at the press conference at the embassy here on Wednesday.

He commended Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Hassan for expressing a firm stand in condemning the RSF and calling for those responsible to be held accountable.

We hope Malaysia will play a role in bringing these perpetrators and criminals before the International Court of Justice (ICJ), he said.

In showing global support against the genocide in Sudan, he said many Sudanese communities and their supporters rallied across France, Canada, the United States, and Egypt.

Media reports said that the RSF captured El-Fasher on Oct 26 and carried out massacres of civilians, according to local and international organisations, prompting warnings that the takeover could cement a geographic partition of the war-torn country.

Since April 15, 2023, the Sudanese army and the RSF have been locked in a war that regional and international mediations have failed to end. The conflict has killed thousands of people and displaced millions of others.

According to the United Nations, Sudan has now become the site of the world's largest humanitarian and displacement crisis on record, with about 14 million people displaced out of a population of 51 million.
