KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 3 (Bernama) -- Korean renewable energy company, JC Chemical Co Ltd, has expressed interest in establishing a plant in Malaysia to process refined used cooking oil (UCO) for use as sustainable aviation fuel (SAF).

Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz said the project is in line with the National Energy Transition Roadmap and the New Industrial Master Plan 2030 (NIMP 2030). “This project will also position Malaysia as a regional hub for SAF feedstock production, thereby strengthening the nation’s biofuel value chain,” he said in a post on social media platform X today.

Earlier reports stated that Malaysia is expected to begin domestic SAF production before the end of 2025, with the commencement of commercial operations by Ecoceres Renewable Fuels Sdn Bhd in Tanjung Langsat, Johor.

The government has also streamlined the licensing process under the Malaysian Biofuel Industry Act 2007 to facilitate the development of SAF production plants and support related infrastructure such as storage, blending, transportation, and distribution.
