KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 22 (Bernama) -- The Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) has advised the public to continue complying with the law throughout the period of the 47th ASEAN Summit and Related Summits conference at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC) from Oct 26 to 28.

Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Mohd Khalid Ismail said that PDRM will take appropriate action under the provisions of the law to ensure that national security continues to be safeguarded.

He urged Malaysians to act responsibly and maintain harmony, order, and mutual respect within the community, so as to set a positive example for the visiting foreign delegates.

“PDRM advises all parties to comply with the law at all times and refrain from any actions that may disrupt public order.

“The public is also advised not to engage in any form of provocation, dissemination of false information, or actions that may cause confusion and public anxiety,” he said in a statement here today.

Mohd Khalid also said that PDRM has taken proactive measures, including early intelligence gathering, continuous monitoring, and the deployment of special teams at strategic locations to ensure optimal security throughout the conference.

He stated the summit is a prestigious event that brings together international heads of state to strengthen regional cooperation and foster mutual understanding for peace and shared prosperity.

“As the host, Malaysia is proud and responsible for ensuring the smooth running and security of this conference,” he said.

Meanwhile, he advised the public to plan their travel, especially around the conference centre, Kuala Lumpur city centre, Putrajaya, and main routes affected by traffic controls and temporary road closures.

“Use navigation apps, plan your travel time in advance, and cooperate fully with the police officers on duty,” he said.

Mohd Khalid also urged the public to remain vigilant about their personal safety and surroundings, and to promptly report any suspicious activities to the authorities, emphasising that public awareness and alertness are vital pillars of national security.

"Let us work together to ensure the success of this 47th ASEAN Summit with a spirit of unity, patriotism, and adherence to the law.

“Show the world that Malaysia is a peaceful, sovereign, and mature nation in managing major international events,” he said.

The 47th ASEAN Summit and Related Summits, themed “Inclusion and Sustainability” are scheduled to be held in Kuala Lumpur from Oct 26 to 28, with the participation of the top leaders of the 10 ASEAN member countries as well as key dialogue partners including the United States, China, Japan, and India.
