KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 16 (Bernama) -- The Chengdu Municipal Bureau of Culture, Broadcast TV and Tourism has stepped up efforts to promote its global tourism brand, “Chengdu, More than Just Giant Pandas”, through a series of roadshows and travel fairs in Malaysia and Singapore.

The events aimed to highlight the city’s image of “Park City, Happy Chengdu” by showcasing its diverse cultural and tourism attractions from multiple perspectives, according to a statement.

At the Kuala Lumpur roadshow, Chengdu featured elements of giant pandas and the famed Sichuan opera face-changing performance, complemented by seasonal imagery of the city to create an immersive “Chengdu vibe”.

Local participants enthusiastically joined virtual reality (VR) tours and face-painting activities, with the VR experience offering a virtual journey from Chengxiang Ancient Town to the Dujiangyan Irrigation System. The interactive showcase provided visitors with a glimpse into the ancient Shu civilisation and inspired interest in visiting Chengdu.

Chengdu also made a strong appearance at ITB Asia in Singapore, one of Asia’s leading travel trade exhibitions. The Chengdu pavilion, themed around giant pandas and snow-capped mountains, attracted significant attention from international travel professionals.

Many travel agencies expressed interest in future collaborations, while the Chengdu delegation explored opportunities for new flight routes and themed travel packages, paving the way for strategic partnerships.

In line with its integrated development strategy that combines culture, business, tourism and sports, Chengdu aims to elevate its position as a world-class cultural and tourism destination by 2030.

The Southeast Asia promotion successfully showcased Chengdu’s rich tourism offerings and injected new vitality into the city’s inbound travel market. With expanding international flight routes and favourable visa policies, Chengdu is poised to welcome more overseas visitors and serve as a vibrant gateway to experience and understand China.
