KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 15 (Bernama) -- The Department of Environment (DOE), under the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability (NRES), has reinforced its commitment to the sustainability of Malaysia's water resources with the release of the book ‘Safeguarding Water Quality for a Sustainable Malaysia’, produced in collaboration with PSTW Sdn Bhd.

The book was launched by NRES deputy minister Datuk Seri Huang Tiong Sii, during the International Greentech & Eco Products Exhibition & Conference Malaysia (IGEM) 2025, attended by NRES secretary-general Datuk Dr Ching Thoo Kim and DOE director- general Datuk Wan Abdul Latiff Wan Jaffar.

Huang described the book as a reflection of Malaysia's ongoing efforts to protect its water resources from the threats of pollution and climate change, demonstrating the government's determination to ensure the long-term sustainability of the nation's natural resources.

“The book provides a comprehensive approach to water management, highlighting national strategies, policy implementation, inter-state collaborations, community-driven initiatives, and innovations in local technology.

“It also emphasises the critical role of education, public communication, and awareness in preserving water quality," Huang said in a statement today.

The publication is the result of a collaborative effort between various government agencies, academic institutions, and industry stakeholders, making it a valuable resource for policymakers, researchers, and the general public.

“Through this book, we not only celebrate our achievements but also call for collective action. Every individual, community, and sector must play a part in safeguarding water, which is vital to life itself,” Huang added.

The DOE meanwhile, emphasised that the enforcement of environmental laws, the adoption of innovative technologies, and cross-sector cooperation remain key strategies in enhancing the country's water management.

“This approach aims to ensure that Malaysia’s water resources remain sustainable, clean, and resilient in the face of climate change.

“The launch of this book is intended to serve as a unifying platform for knowledge, policy, and action in line with Malaysia MADANI's goal of balancing economic progress, public welfare, and environmental sustainability," the DOE said.

The DOE also highlighted that the book showcases research findings, field experiences, and policies that contribute to the ongoing efforts to preserve water quality, in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which emphasise universal access to clean water and sanitation.

“The book provides a comprehensive overview of Malaysia's initiatives to protect water quality through national strategies, state-level actions, and active community involvement,” the DOE said.

Furthermore, the publication stresses the importance of education and public awareness in ensuring that water conservation becomes a shared responsibility among the government, industries, and the public.

“The department hopes that this book will serve as an invaluable reference for policymakers, researchers, industry professionals, and the public, facilitating a coordinated approach to water management by both the federal and state governments.

“By documenting knowledge and best practices, the book aims to ensure that Malaysia’s water resources remain clean, sustainable, and resilient for the well-being of current and future generations,” the DOE added.
