INDONESIA

1. INDONESIA’S FUTURE AT STAKE: ECONOMISTS PUSH SEVEN URGENT ECONOMIC DEMANDS -- JAKARTA GLOBE

More than 1,200 Indonesian economists and professionals have come together under the Indonesian Economists Alliance to propose what they call “Seven Urgent Economic Demands”  a set of recommendations aimed at guiding the country toward more inclusive, sustainable, and resilient growth.

 

2. FOOD POISONING SURGE PROMPTS MASS CALLS FOR FREE MEALS REVIEW -- THE JAKARTA POST

1. REVAMPING RURAL ECONOMY WITH RM420 MILLION -- VIENTIANE TIMES 

Vientiane Venice City Sole Co Ltd will invest RM420 million (US$100 million) in modern agricultural development projects. The project, linked to tourism, trade, and services in Nongvaeng village, Vientiane, aims to boost rural economies. 

 

2. MOVING TOWARDS LOW-CARBON ECONOMY -- VIENTIANE TIMES

Vientiane is hosting the Carbon Markets and Clean Energy Conference on September 24–25, 2025. The two-day conference aims to provide a key platform for advancing climate action and promoting sustainable development in Laos. 

 

MYANMAR

1. INVESTMENTS WORTH RM105 MILLION APPROVED -- THE GLOBAL NEW LIGHT OF MYANMAR 

The government has approved investments worth RM105 million (US$25M) in foreign investment in Shan State. They will generate employment for 1,698 local workers in the agriculture, industry, electricity, mining, hotel and tourism, and service sectors. 

 

2. ROUGH WEATHER RISKS SOUTHERN MYANMAR -- THE GLOBAL NEW LIGHT OF MYANMAR 

The meteorological department has forecast heavy rainfall in the southern parts of Myanmar due to harsh weather patterns, largely triggered by Super Cyclone Ragasa. Weather conditions, from strong winds to floods, are expected. 

 

PHILIPPINES

1. 'OPONG' NOW A TROPICAL STORM; 'HABAGAT' TO BRING RAINS, WINDS -- PHILIPPINE NEWS AGENCY

Tropical cyclone Opong has intensified into a tropical storm, packing maximum sustained winds of 65 kilometres per hour (kph) near the centre and gustiness of up to 80 kph, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said Wednesday.

 

2. BICOL U SUSPENDS IN-PERSON CLASSES DUE TO 'OPONG' -- PHILIPPINE NEWS AGENCY

The Bicol University (BU) has suspended face-to-face classes for more than 25,000 students across its campuses on Wednesday.

Bangkok governor Chadchart Sittipunt has reassured residents that the capital is prepared to cope with heavy rainfall this week, following public concern over rising water levels in upstream provinces.

1. NATIONAL CARRIERS EXPAND PARTNERSHIP -- VIETNAMPLUS

Vietnam Airlines and Singapore Airlines have signed a code-sharing agreement to offer more flight options between the two countries. This new code-sharing arrangement, which begins on October 26, will enhance connectivity.

 

2. DA NANG TO HOST IRONMAN TRIATHLON -- VIETNAMPLUS

Da Nang City will host Vietnam’s full-distance Ironman triathlon on May 10, 2026. The event will feature a 3.8 km swim, a 180 km bike ride and a 42.2 km marathon.
