BAKU, Sept. 21 (Bernama-Xinhua) -- Formula 1 will continue racing in Baku through 2030 after organisers and the Azerbaijani government agreed on Saturday to extend the Azerbaijan Grand Prix contract by four years, according to Baku City Circuit, reported Xinhua.

F1 CEO Stefano Domenicali called the track "unique" for combining long straights with tight corners through the city's old town, delivering "an eventful and entertaining race every year".

"This renewal reflects the strong trust and commitment between Formula 1, the Azerbaijani government, and the promoter, and paves the way for an exciting future in the country," he added.

The 6-kilometre circuit drew fans from more than 70 countries and regions in 2024 and reached a global TV audience of 66 million, organisers said.

First held in 2016, the Baku City Circuit has become known for its unpredictable races, with seven different winners in eight editions. Only Sergio Perez has won twice, while Lewis Hamilton, Max Verstappen and Oscar Piastri are among the other victors.
