SHAH ALAM, Sept 11 -- A total of 107 Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan Tamil (SJKT) in Selangor and Kuala Lumpur participated in the Safe Internet Campaign (KIS) carnival organised by the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) here today.
In a statement, MCMC Corporate Communications said the carnival is a strategic outreach to cover more schools and ensure no one is left out of the programme.
Present was Deputy Minister of Communications, Teo Nie Ching, who engaged with participants and visitors at the carnival, which was supported through a collaboration between the Ministry of Education and the Malaysian Tamil Headmasters Association.
The carnival’s objective was to raise awareness among school students about the importance of online self-protection, understanding cyber risks, and fostering a culture of wise and responsible internet use.
The event included a performance by the KIS Choir, comprised of participating school students and cultural performances in conjunction with Malaysia Day.
There were also exhibition booths from MCMC’s strategic partners, the National Information Dissemination Centre (NADI), Royal Malaysia Police, and National Population and Family Development Board Selangor.
“To reinforce the participants' understanding, a variety of interactive games centred on digital and cybersecurity were also conducted throughout the carnival,” the statement read.
Furthermore, 214 students were appointed as Icon Captains of the Safe Internet Campaign (Kapten K-DAT) initiative.
Drawn from the participating schools, these students will serve as ambassadors within their respective institutions to promote the message of cybersecurity and the practice of safe internet usage.
As of Sept 1, a total of 1,928 schools nationwide have participated in the KIS module, with 144 schools from Selangor and 76 from the Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur.
