KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 7 (Bernama) -- From the rhythmic sounds of Kulintangan to the graceful moves of silat, Malaysia’s 68th National Day reception in Brunei was a lively celebration of shared heritage, friendship, and flavours that united Malaysians and Bruneians under one roof.

Hosted by the High Commission of Malaysia, the reception welcomed over 250 guests, including senior officials, diplomats, business leaders, and members of the Malaysian diaspora, who were feted with traditional Malaysian cuisines.

The guest of honour was Religious Affairs Minister Pehin Udana Khatib Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Haji Awang Badaruddin.

High Commissioner of Malaysia to Brunei, Datuk Mohd Aini Atan, lauded the deep bond of friendship between Malaysia and Brunei, and expressed confidence that the shared history and trust would continue to guide both nations towards greater peace and prosperity.

He said since the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1984, Malaysia and Brunei had enjoyed strong ties underscored by frequent high-level visits. Sultan of Brunei, Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah, made a state visit to Malaysia in August – his third this year, and on the Malaysian side, both the Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Ibrahim and Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim visited Brunei earlier this year.

“This frequent exchange of visits between our leaders has reaffirmed our long-standing special relations. Against this backdrop, I am confident that bilateral cooperation between the two countries will continue to flourish,” he said.

The high commissioner also highlighted achievements in bilateral cooperation in the economy, defence, tourism, education, and health.

He  reaffirmed Malaysia’s commitment as ASEAN Chair to bring the bloc closer to the people and steer it towards a more inclusive and sustainable future.

Mohd Aini stressed that it is imperative for Malaysia and Brunei to maintain a future-driven relationship built on their deep historical bond, trust, and confidence.

“Malaysia is fully committed to further strengthening its relations with Brunei for the mutual benefit of our nations and peoples.

“It is my fervent hope that our shared history and trust will guide both countries towards greater peace, prosperity, and harmony,” he said.
