MUAR, Aug 23 (Bernama) -- The Community Communications Department (J-KOM) is ready to serve as an intermediary to help the Johor government to promote development projects in the state to the public via various media platforms, including social media.

Its director-general, Datuk Ismail Yusop said the current approach, which emphasises more on social media to reach youth, differs from past efforts that focused only on traditional media.

“It is J-KOM’s duty to inform about such developments. If mainstream media is implemented by the Information Department, Bernama and other agencies, then social media is our task,” he told Bernama fter the Jauhar MADANI programme at Tunku Mahkota Ismail Youth Centre (TMIYC) in Muar today, which was officiated by Johor Public Works, Transport, Infrastructure and Communications Committee chairman Mohamad Fazli Mohamad Salleh.

J-KOM currently uses major platforms such as Facebook, X, TikTok, Instagram and podcasts, and has plans to start WhatsApp and Telegram groups at the district level to expand its reach, he said, adding that the department was set up to help ministries, state governments and agencies ensure that all implemented projects reach every level of society.

Mohamad Fazli had earlier in his officiating speech sought the assistance of the department to promote every development project and activity so that the people of Johor would know of the latest developments.

The Jauhar MADANI  programme organised by J-KOM in conjunction with the 2025 National Day and Malaysia Day (HKHM) is filled with various activities, including costume contests, a treasure hunt, an interactive Safe Internet campaign by the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), a School Got Talent contest and a colouring contest.
