Late Son Shouldered Responsibility To Provide For Family After Father's Illness - Mother

BANTING, Aug 23 (Bernama) -- The mother of a teenager who tragically perished in an accident early this morning in Banting revealed that her eldest son had been supporting the family fInancially for the past three years, while still attending school.

According to Roszainida Hassan, 40, the late Muhammad Danish Shamsul Shahrizan, 16, never complained about earning extra income after school to support the family, especially after his father, Shamsul Shahrizan Salam, 43, became bedridden due to health issues.

The family faced further challenges last year when Muhammad Danish's younger sister, Nur Danisha Shamsul Shahrizan, 14, was diagnosed with uterine cancer, which required extensive and costly treatment.

"I witnessed my son working hard to earn money by taking on various jobs to help cover the family's needs, including paying the house rent. Two years later, the burden grew heavier when my daughter was diagnosed with cancer.

"Yesterday, he told me he wanted to go out with friends to repair a motorcycle at a workshop at 10 pm and would be driving my husband's car. I only reminded him to be careful," she said after identifying her son's body at Banting Hospital today.

She said Muhammad Danish, the eldest of five siblings, willingly took on the responsibility of assisting her since she only earns RM2,000 a month transporting schoolchildren.

Roszainida also said she also frequently travels to the Hospital Canselor Tuanku Muhriz at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (HCTM-UKM) for her daughter's treatment and chemotherapy, which incurs a cost of up to RM9,000.

"My late son once expressed his wish to leave school because he wanted to earn money and help support his sister's treatment. He was a wonderful son and very responsible," she added.

The crash along Jalan Sultan Sulaiman Shah in Banting also claimed the lives of Hariz Nazri, 19, and Muhammad Adib Anuar, 16. Another victim, Muhammad Danish Farhan Alias, 19, died while receiving treatment at Banting Hospital.

It was reported that four teenagers were killed after the car they were travelling in crashed along Jalan Sultan Sulaiman Shah in Kampung Chodoi, Banting, early this morning.

Kuala Langat district police chief Superintendent Mohd Akmalrizal Radzi said investigations indicated that the accident at 5 am occurred when a Toyota Corolla, travelling from Pantai Morib towards Telok Panglima Garang, reportedly lost control, veered into the opposite lane, and skidded and crashed into a ditch.
