PARIT, Aug 21 (Bernama) -- The Raja Muda of Perak, Raja Jaafar Raja Muda Musa, today officiated the opening of the ‘Tanah Abang to Bukit Chandan’ Visual Art Exhibition at the Al-Biruni Gallery, Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM), Seri Iskandar Campus, near here.
The ceremony was attended by Perak Education, Higher Education, Youth and Sports Committee chairman Khairudin Abu Hanipah, Perak Tengah district officer Mohd Zaki Abd Rahman, UiTM deputy vice-chancellor (Development) Prof Dr Md Yusof Hamid, and Acting Rector of UiTM Perak, Assoc Prof Dr Nur Hisham Ibrahim.
Organised by UiTM’s Faculty of Art and Design, the exhibition, which features visual artworks and history talks, is a follow-up to the ‘Pasir Salak to Kuala Kangsar’ exhibition held in 2008.
In his speech, Md Yusof said the art exhibition also serves as a cultural platform that highlights the history of Perak for the appreciation of present and future generations, spurring intellectual movements and the cultivation of noble values within the socio-cultural landscape, particularly in Perak Tengah and the state of Perak.
“This history-themed exhibition not only celebrates the creativity of artists but also encourages discourse on values and lessons from the past. Thus, art is not merely entertainment but also a medium of education and heritage preservation.
“Therefore, efforts such as this exhibition should be continued as they connect generations with historical heritage through meaningful expressions,” said Md Yusof.
At the same time, he also expressed gratitude to the state government for its full support of the exhibition, which would enrich society’s knowledge of the history of the Perak Sultanate.
‘Tanah Abang to Bukit Chandan’ highlights the historical journey of the Perak Sultanate, beginning from Tanah Abang, which symbolises the community’s traditional roots, to Bukit Chandan, Kuala Kangsar.
